Do You Know Your Skin Type?



WHAT IS MY SKIN TYPE?


Knowing your skin type can help you choose products best suited for your skin. Skin is generally classified into five types: normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive.

Normal Skin

Normal skin is characterized by a good balance of moisture, small pores, and even tone. Normal skin is the least problematic skin type. To keep your facial skin in a good condition, it is vital to minimize the sun exposure. For preventing the skin from wrinkles and sun damage, a facial sunscreen with 30 SPF is an ideal.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is characterized by overactive sebaceous (sweat) glands, dull or shiny skin and an excessive appearance of blackheads, pimples, and blemishes. It could be worsened by stress, hormones, and/or exposure to heat or humidity. An excess of oil on your face represents oily skin. After hours of cleaning the face, people with oily skin start to feel greasy. The oil mostly happens on “T-zone”: the forehead, nose, and chin. This skin type needs a sunscreen, not a moisturizer.

Dry Skin

Dry skin categorized by a dull, rough complexion, red patches, more visible lines on the facial skin. A lack of natural moisture leads to in dry skin. People with dry skin people usually feel tight, irritated, itchy and painful on their face. Also, experience the skin peeling and cracks. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer to take care of dry skin Moisturizer shall be applied twice a day.

Combination Skin

Combination skin can be noticed on the face with overly dilated pores, blackheads, and shiny skin. It can be dry or normal in some facial areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin). People with combination skin feel oily only on the T-zone, while their cheeks are dry. To treat combination skin, a moisturizer may be needed on the cheeks, while an anti-acne product might be needed on the T-zone.

Sensitive Skin

Skin can become sensitive for a variety of reasons; it is caused by some factors such as a cosmetic product, food or your environment. Sensitive skin is characterized by redness, itching, burning and dryness on the skin. People with sensitive skin shall avoid product with alcohol and retinoid or alpha-hydroxy acids etc.  To treat sensitive skin, a moisturizer product may help skin hold on to moisture so it resists drying and use skin-friendly products.
